Fabulously Fun FELT UNITED

Again this year, Barb and Gene Marr have invited Sue Pufpaff, me and YOU to join them on October 1st from 12-4 for the international day of feltmaking. Sue and I will both be doing demos and Barb will have the shop open for sales of their fine, farm grown yarns and fibers. All of the details and the "how to get there" are on the link. I hope that you will join us. It's great fun and very educational.

The colors for this years FELT UNITED event are red, blue and purple. It should be exciting to see what we all come up with. Please do come and join us if you can. It won't be the same without you.

See you there!
Shalom,
Suzanne

Piece on Piece

This is a wall hanging that came about yesterday after looking at the pile of felt scraps that I've collected over the past 10+ years. I wanted to make a collage of the small piece. I took white pre-felts, 2 layers, laid it out then began to add the "felts" in random order. I then covered the entire lay out in white silk gauze. This was done to primarily to "hold tight" the felts to the prefelts. It worked! Now I've got to figure out the difficult task of getting it finished and hung. Got ideas?

Tomorrow is FELT UNITED! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Will you be coming to Marr Haven tomorrow? Noon till 4! See you there!

Only Time for Little Things

Sunday, Jone and I went to see ARTPRIZE in Grand Rapids, MI. Janice Arnold has the most exquisite felt instillation I've ever seen. I could use all of the adjectives in my vocabulary and still fall grossly short of how jaw-dropping it is. Stunned is how I am still, happily stunned!

We had the opportunity to talk with Janice for about a half hour. What a doll she is! She is strong, wise, a visionary. If anyone is questioning if they should come to see her work, the answer is YES, YES, YES!!!!! You'll not be disappointed at all! To be in it was amazing. If you want to take a peek at her work, check out:

I am getting ready for Felt United 2010! Again this year we will be at Marr Haven in Allegan from 12-4 PM. You are all invited to come join us. Please, please do. It's going to be so much fun.

These two small pieces are made from pre-felt that Jone has dyed. The colors are perfect for Felt United, so I made these two small pins. Looks like I'd better get busy!

Happy Felting and Shalom,
Suzanne

Felt United Event and beyond

There is the photo of Barb Marr and me together after our day together, teaching and exposing folks to the wonder that is felt
We had some folks who were knitters only and have fallen in love with felt. YEAH! I think that eventually, we'll be teaching some classes on the joy of feltmaking!

I am making hats, but not nearly at the pace I need to be. I've got to get some cleaning done and lots of paper work needs to be completed before I can get back at it. Cleaning can be a great way to let the mind wonder and the thoughts play among themselves. So tomorrow, the brain gets to play while the house and paperwork get done. ....I wonder what the top of my desk looks like?

What are you making today? I hope it is filled with joy!

****************************

"Marr Haven Wool Farm of Allegan, MI will host a FELT UNITED event October 3, 2009 from noon until 4 :00 pm.

A large tent will be placed in front of the farm shop for felt makers to exhibit (and sell if you have a Michigan sales tax license). Suzanne Higgs of Hooked On Felt will demonstrate simple felt making for the public and will have several of her stunning felt hats available.

We are inviting all felt makers in our area to participate by making a felt item in the Felt United color theme of red, orange and yellow. A combination of the 3 colors or one of the 3 colors may be used according to the Felt United guidelines with no more than 3% added colors. Photos will be submitted to Felt United for their online exhibit as well as in a multimedia presentation. More information regarding the felt pieces are on the Felt United website.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in participating so I can include you in the news releases which I would like to send out by next Monday Sept. 7."
