It's Too Darn Hot!

Very hot 4th of July, and warmer still today in southwest Michigan. As the day cooled down a bit last night, I decided to make sculpted felt hat. I used two very thin layers of roving in the lay out, so it took a lot of rolling to get the rate of shrinkage that I needed. It is a light weight, very sturdy felt.

Today I am going to get an ice pack and take a nap through the heat of the day. Is it "sweater weather" yet?

Five Felt Hats

Here are the labors of the past two days. I am very tired, but I am liking the hats very much. What do you think?
The details:
The blue hat is made of merino with silk fibers on the surface. The burnt orange hat is made of hand dyed merino and has silk fibers on the brim, with silk fabrics in black and white on the surface fora very shadowy effect. The white hat is merino. The pink/red hat is made from merino with prefelts cut into squares and placed on the surface for design. Lastly, the multi-colored hat hat metallic fabric on the brim, with silk and metallic fabric on the surface

Suzanne

Hats and then some

I'm heading off to bed so I'll not write much, but these are the labors of my hands the last few days. Blew the bursa on my left elbow so this has been a somewhat painful process. I'll try to write more about these tomorrow.
Shalom and Peace,
Suzanne

Turning Points / Full Moon Rises

I started this hat yesterday, but finally finished it today. It was planned to be unplanned, with many twists and turns along the process. Usually I 'll start out with a weighed and measured goal in mind, but this one was deliberately "Let GO" in the design of the resist. The top of the hat has roses in it but are difficult to show. Perhaps when it is completely dry they will show up better. This hat is made of hand-dyed merino, black was the first layer with the multi-color atop the black. I think it made the colors richer.

As I am writing this, my family is asleep, it is 11:18 pm, there is a beautiful full moon playing peek-a-boo with huge puffy clouds. It is a time to enjoy the quiet of the day, thank God for blessings I cannot even describe and enjoy the nighttime beauty that is all around me. I love a full moon.
Shalom to all of you,
Suzanne

PS:
MUST ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU TO TAKE A PEEK AT PAM DEGROOT's SITE. YOU"LL BE AMAZED AND INSPIRED! to say the least! Her link is on my side bar

This weeks work

I had hoped to complete more hats before the Michigan Fiber Festival....but it didn't happen. These did and I hope that they are well received.
